Online pre-registration closes Thursday, July 15 at 11:59pm. Event-day registration will be available. We accept cash, card, or check made payable to Northwest Trail Runs.

Runners in elementary, middle, or high school are eligible to receive a $10 discount on online pre-registration prices. The discount will be applied automatically based on your date of birth.

Young runners registering at the event may receive $5 off day-of-event registration.

COVID-19 Safety Measures

Part of our duty as event organizers is to plan carefully for safety. We take this responsibility seriously, and we appreciate the trust you place in us by coming to our events.

Outdoor endurance events remain one of the safest and most health-promoting things you can do during the still ongoing pandemic. Thanks to the high rates of vaccination in our region, it is unlikely that anyone at the event would have COVID-19, and there is only a very small chance of serous illness should a vaccinated person be so unlucky as to catch it.

We would still like you and everyone attending our events to take common-sense precautions to minimize the risks: Avoid remaining in close proximity to others (where you are face-to-face or breathing the same air) for prolonged periods, especially in still air or enclosed spaces. Be conscious of hand hygiene, including washing or sanitizing frequently and avoiding touching your eyes with dirty hands. And of course, stay home if you have cold- or flu-like symptoms or a new loss of your sense of taste or smell that could be COVID-19. You don’t need to wear a mask at the event if you are vaccinated. If you are not vaccinated, please wear a mask in the registration/start/finish area, or when you cannot maintain six-feet distance from others. Everyone may run without a mask. Thank you for your participation in making this a safe event!

Maintain Physical Distancing

Avoid prolonged close contact with others, where you are breathing the same air (especially in still air or confined/enclosed spaces) or are in close, face-to-face proximity. Try to keep at least a six-foot interpersonal distance from anyone not in your household whenever possible. As a rule-of-thumb, if you and a person nearby could reach toward each other and touch fingertips, then you are too close. Briefly being within six feet is unlikely to be a problem, so this applies primarily to situations where you are near to others for several minutes, especially if you are unvaccinated.
Travel to and from the event only with people in your household, or with one other household if you and they have been vaccinated. Driving with windows ajar for ventilation can further mitigate transmission risk in the confines of a vehicle.
Abide by COVID safety guidelines if you make stops on the way to or from the event. Indoor businesses continue to pose a greater transmission risk than outdoor activities.
Avoid gathering around the registration/check-in area in order to facilitate distancing for yourself and others.
Unless you are passing, please maintain at least a 20-foot distance or position yourself to the side rather than directly behind when following other runners who are going a similar speed on the course. If you are vaccinated, you are at significantly lower risk and need not observe this guideline.

Wear a Mask if You’re Unvaccinated & Practice Good Hygiene

If you are unvaccinated, please wear a mask or face covering at the event, only uncovering your face when you are starting or are eating or drinking.
Wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer promptly after contact with respiratory fluids or possibly contaminated objects, like portable toilet doors and other commonly-touched surfaces.
If you need to cough or sneeze please cover it with a tissue (which you should then throw away as soon as possible) or with your elbow.
Avoid touching your mouth, nose, and eyes.
When taking your bib number, drinks, snacks, or any other items, please use care to touch only the item(s) you are taking. Drinks and snacks will be served in individual portions only, and common water and snack containers are to be touched by staff only.

Stay Home if You’re Sick or Vulnerable

Do not attend the event if you have a temperature of 100.4F or greater, feel sick, have had a positive COVID-19 test or illness within the past 14 days, or believe you may have recently been exposed to the COVID-19 virus
Consider your risk before deciding to attend the event if you are a member of a high-risk group or are in close contact with one or more people in a high-risk group (per CDC: 65+, immune compromised, having another health condition that exacerbates COVID-19 and unable to be vaccinated).
If you begin to experience the flu-like symptoms of COVID-19 while you are at the event, please immediately notify a staff person (at a safe distance) and self-quarantine away from others until you are able to safely depart the event

We ask you and everyone attending the event to abide by this code of conduct. We also ask that we be allowed to contact you after the event if we discover that someone at the event was sick and have reason to believe you may have been exposed. If you become sick soon after attending the event, we would appreciate you letting us know, so that we can track potential risk to our staff and other participants.

Course Description

5k – 5.2 km, 285 feet climb
10k – 10.7 km, 615 feet climb
Half Marathon (10k course x 2) – 21.4 km, 1230 feet climb

Putney Woods is a little known trail running gem of South Whidbey Island, with a mix of wider mostly-straight trails and narrower winding trails. The variety of trail sizes includes enough twists, turns and roots to make it fun, but not so many that you get dizzy. The hills are modest, with climbs that are either gentle or shorter and steeper where they climb or descend the sometimes steep-sided ridges and ravines. The area is blanketed with a lovely Puget Sound lowland second-growth forest, including conifer trees, salal, and ferns.

Half Marathon: 3 aid stations, at 3.2 miles, 6.6 miles and 9.8 miles

Putney Woods County Park is about a 20 minute drive from the Clinton ferry terminal on Whidbey Island, near the lovely town of Langley. There is a gravel parking lot at the park that will serve as the primary parking location. If this lot fills, then please park along the adjacent road as directed by event staff.

FERRY
Those approaching from the South will want to take the Mukilteo/Clinton Ferry. On Saturday morning the ferry leaves from Mukilteo at 6:00am, 7:00am, and 8:00am. There is often a line at the ferry dock, so it is advised to arrive at least 30 minutes before the departure that you intend to catch. The ferry ride itself takes approximately 20 minutes. The drive from the Clinton (Whidbey Island) ferry landing to the start at Putney Woods takes approximately 20 minutes.

LODGING
Whidbey Island is a fabulous place to spend a weekend! Consider staying in the cozy town of Langley.

CAMPING
The nearest camping to the event site is at the south end of the Island County Fairgrounds, located along Langley Road about a half mile walk or drive from downtown Langley. Call 360-221-7950 for information. There are also a few State Parks and a county park farther north on Whidbey Island that offer camping.
