The start is at the Middle Fork Trailhead, and the courses take runners on the beautiful Middle Fork and CCC trails. All courses have modest climb, since the routes follow river valleys, with a few meanders of the trail up and down the valley slope. The Middle Fork Valley features views of the rugged mountain slopes, old-growth trees, majestic cliffs, lush forest, the swiftly-flowing Middle Fork Snoqualmie River, and perhaps some birds fishing along the river. Online pre-registration closes Thursday, October 9 at 11:59pm. Event-day registration will be available by cash, card, or check made payable to Northwest Trail Runs.

Youth Runner Discount

Runners in elementary, middle, or high school—any runners under age 20—are eligible to receive a 15% or $10 discount (whichever is greater) on online pre-registration prices for all Northwest Trail Runs events. The discount will be auto generated based on your date of birth.

Course Description

Below are route summaries and maps for each distance.

Both the 50k and 22-Mile courses cross Burnt Boot Creek, which does not have a bridge. The water is usually low enough in September that it can be easily waded across, however we also generally build at least a minimal log bridge to allow for a dry-foot crossing for those who are comfortable walking across logs.

50k Route Summary and Map

From the start at the Middle Fork Trailhead parking area, cross the road from the trailhead entrance and go onto to the CCC connector trail.
From the CCC connector trail, turn left at the junction just West of the campground, and onto the CCC trail for about 0.7 miles West to a marked turn-around point, then back to the start and aid station A.
Cross the footbridge and onto the Middle Fork Trail
The second aid station (B) will be at the junction of the Dingford Creek and Middle Fork Trails
From aid station B, continue on the Middle Fork Trail to the bridge near Goldmyer Hot Springs and the third aid station (C)
From aid station C, continue East, up the Middle Fork Trail to the junction with the forest service road, then turn left onto the road
Go West down the forest road, then make a sharp left onto the access road to the bridge at Goldmyer Hot Springs and back across to aid station C
Return West along Middle Fork Trail all the way to the Middle Fork Trailhead, passing aid station B again on the return trip, before finishing at the Middle Fork Trailhead

22-Mile Route Summary and Map

From the start at the Middle Fork Trailhead parking area, cross the footbridge and onto the Middle Fork Trail
The first aid station (B) will be at the junction of the Dingford Creek and Middle Fork Trails
From aid station B, the route goes left and across the river to meet the Middle Fork Road at the Dingford Creek Trailhead, then past the gate to the right and up the road for 4.5 miles
When the Middle Fork Road nears Goldmyer Hot Springs, the course makes a soft right onto the access road to the bridge near Goldmyer Hot Springs. The second aid station (C) is across the bridge on the south side of the river.
From aid station C, turn right to go down the river along the Middle Fork Trail back to aid station B
Return along the Middle Fork Trail to the finish at the Middle Fork Trailhead

Half Marathon Route Summary and Map

From the start at the Middle Fork Trailhead parking area, cross the road from the trailhead entrance and go onto to the CCC connector trail.
From the CCC connector trail, turn left at the junction just West of the campground, and onto the CCC trail for about 0.3 miles West to a marked turn-around point, then back to the start and aid station A
Cross the footbridge and onto the Middle Fork Trail
Follow the Middle Fork Trail to the second aid station (B), at the junction of the Dingford Creek and Middle Fork Trails
At aid station B, turn around and return along the Middle Fork Trail to finish at the Middle Fork Trailhead

10k Route Summary and Map

From the start at the Middle Fork Trailhead parking area, cross the road from the trailhead entrance and go onto to the CCC connector trail.
From the CCC connector trail, turn left at the junction just West of the campground, and onto the CCC Trail.
Where the CCC Trail meets the Middle Fork Road, there will be an aid station (D) and turn-around point.
From Aid Station D, return along the CCC Trail and CCC connector to the road crossing, and finish at the Middle Fork Trailhead.

Distances and Climb

50k (actual 50.0km): 4090 feet*
22-mile (actual 22.2mi, 35.7km): 2390 feet*
Half Marathon (actual 21.1km, 13.1mi): ~1450 feet*
10k (actual 10.52km): 810 feet*

* Distances were measured using a measuring wheel and a calibrated bike odometer, and elevation data were measured using a Suunto Ambit sport watch. The distance is most likely within 1% of actual, and the climb within 5%.

Aid stations
There will be five well-stocked aid stations on the 50k course, three on the 22 Mile, two on the Half Marathon, and one on the 10k. Here are the distances to the aid stations for each race:

50k: 3.7 km, 13.1 km, 21.8 km, 31.8 km, 40.5 km (2.3, 8.2, 13.6, 19.8, and 25.2 miles)
22-mile: 9.5 km, 17.5 km, 26.2 km (5.9 mi, 10.9 mi, 16.3 mi)
Half Marathon: 2.2 km, 11.6 km (1.3 mi, 7.2 mi)
10k: 5.3 km (3.3 miles, halfway)

The aid stations will have at least water, electrolyte drink, and some carbohydrate-rich foods, such as energy gels, cookies, pieces of energy bar, bagel, fruity candy, fig bars, and/or bananas. There will be a few choices of these foods (both sweet and salty).

12:30 PM – cut-off 50k runners to reach Aid Station C (Goldmyer)
1:00 PM – cut-off 22-mile runners to reach Aid Station C (Goldmyer)
2:30 PM- cut-off 50k runners for second pass at Aid Station C (Goldmyer)

A pre-start briefing will take place 5-10 minutes before each start time.

* You do not need to arrive at 7:00 a.m. to check in. You need only arrive with enough time before the start time for your distance.

A NORTHWEST FOREST PASS IS REQUIRED to park at Middle Fork trailhead. An annual pass costs $30 and is honored at any Forest Service operated recreation area where a use fee is required. Day passes are $5. Note that this is different than a Discover Pass, which allows access to Washington State (not U.S. National Forest) lands. You can view options for purchasing a Northwest Forest Pass online or in-person at the Northwest Forest Pass website.

Safety, Etiquette, Dogs

SAFETY
The trails will be open to other users during the event, including pedestrians with pets, and cyclists. Participants are responsible for their own safety while participating, and the organizers are neither qualified nor equipped to render medical care in the event of a serious injury. In case of an emergency, try calling 9-1-1, although there is generally poor or no cell signal over much of the course area. You should also let other participants or passers-by know that you need help. You are encouraged to bring a cell phone or satellite locator/communicator device with you as a safety precaution, if you wish.

PASSING ETIQUETTE
Where the trails are narrow, please let other participants pass you if they want to get by. It is a passing runner’s job to tell the person in front that they wish to pass.

HEADPHONES
If you’d like to listen to music while you’re on the course, please use headphones or earbuds, so that runners around you can’t hear it. Others may prefer a quieter event experience or may have different musical tastes. Runners playing music in the open air may be asked to leave the event.

Also, keep the volume low enough that you can hear someone talking to you in a normal voice, for example, another runner saying they would like to pass on your left.

DOGS
Our events are USATF sanctioned and insured, and under USATF policies, dogs are not allowed on course.
