Register for two races to get a 5% discount on your entry fees, three races to get a 10% discount, and four or more races to get a 15% entry fee discount. Online pre-registration closes Thursday, July 16 at 11:59pm.

Runners in elementary, middle, or high school are eligible to receive a $10 discount on online pre-registration prices. The discount will be applied automatically based on your date of birth.

Young runners registering at the event may receive $5 off day-of-event registration.

Coronavirus Measures

As we started our 2020 Half Marathon Trail Series in February we had no idea that a global pandemic was about to have so much impact on the lives and work of ourselves and virtually everyone in our broader communities at all levels. We’re taking the COVID-19 crisis seriously and are committed to working together to keep ourselves and our communities (including you) healthy as we respond to directives and guidance from government and health officials to flatten the curve of the pandemic.

You’re an important part of our team in this effort. Here are some things we’re asking you to do to Go The Social Distance with us:

Please don’t come to the event if you feel sick, believe you may have been exposed to coronavirus, or are in close contact with one or more vulnerable people (old, immune compromised, having another health condition that exacerbates COVID-19)
Wear a cloth face covering when you are around others during the time you are checking in and preparing to start and after you have finished and are cooling down before you leave.
Plan ahead so that you don’t need to make any extra stops where you would potentially come into contact with others on your way to and from the event
Don’t carpool with people you’re not already in close contact with. We normally encourage carpooling, but this isn’t the time for it.
Arrive at the event site no more than one hour before your start time
Keep a 6-foot interpersonal distance whenever possible and avoid touching your mouth, nose, and eyes
Cover all coughs and sneezes with a tissue (which should then immediately be discarded) or with your elbow. The coronavirus is spread via droplets from the nose, mouth, and lungs, so keeping your droplets to yourself is one of the most important things you can do.
Behave as if you or other people could be contagious, even if you feel fine. Some COVID-19 cases have been spread from people with mild or imperceptible symptoms; don’t let that be you.
Wash your hands frequently with soap or clean them with hand sanitizer; do this especially after touching your face or any surface that other people may have touched and contaminated (like door handles, table surfaces, etc.)
Don’t touch drink coolers or any other serving containers; ask staff and volunteers to serve you.
Use our self-serve bib number pick-up; check posted lists to find out which number is yours.

Here are some steps our organizing team is taking in response to COVID-19:

We’re limiting the number of people permitted to register for the event
We’ll be enforcing physical distancing measures, including using individual starts over a several-hour window of time to avoid groups of people gathering close together. We’ll be starting an average of up to one runner per minute, so runners can start alone or with members of their household only. Expect these changes to be reflected in the event schedule over the coming weeks.
We’ve made our credit and refund policies more flexible to significantly reduce your financial risk of registering for our events during this less predictable time
Hand sanitizer will be available around the registration area and the toilets, and this is for you and everyone else to use
Staff and volunteers will wear masks and use gloves or implements when handling items to limit the potential for contagion
Individual serving portions will be provided of drinks and snacks at aid stations and the finish line
We’ll be posting live results on the event website rather than setting up a results display in the finish area, so you can check your result from your smartphone without having to crowd around a screen

Course Description

5k (5.2 km, 285 feet climb): Ant loop
10k (10.7 km, 615 feet climb): Cat loop
Half Marathon (21.1 km, 1585 feet climb): Ant loop, then Bear loop

Putney Woods is a little known trail running gem of South Whidbey Island, with a mix of wider mostly-straight trails and narrower winding trails. The variety of trail sizes includes enough twists, turns and roots to make it fun, but not so many that you get dizzy. The hills are modest, with climbs that are either gentle or shorter and steeper where they climb or descend the sometimes steep-sided ridges and ravines. The area is blanketed with a lovely Puget Sound lowland second-growth forest, including conifer trees, salal, and ferns.

Half Marathon: 3 aid stations, at 3.2, 5.9, and 9.6 miles
Marathon: 6 aid stations, at 3.2, 6.7, 9.4, 13.1, 16.5, 19.2, and 22.9 miles

Putney Woods County Park is about a 20 minute drive from the Clinton ferry terminal on Whidbey Island, near the lovely town of Langley. There is a gravel parking lot at the park that will serve as the primary parking location. If this lot fills, then please park along the adjacent road as directed by event staff.

FERRY
Those approaching from the South will want to take the Mukilteo/Clinton Ferry. On Saturday morning the ferry leaves from Mukilteo at 6:00am, 7:00am, and 8:00am. There is often a line at the ferry dock, so it is advised to arrive at least 30 minutes before the departure that you intend to catch. The ferry ride itself takes approximately 20 minutes. The drive from the Clinton (Whidbey Island) ferry landing to the start at Putney Woods takes approximately 20 minutes. We advise catching the 7:00am ferry or the 8:00am ferry (if you don’t need much prep time on site).

LODGING
Whidbey Island is a fabulous place to spend a weekend! Consider staying in the cozy town of Langley. There will be an art walk in Langley with galleries open and serving wine from 5-7pm on the evening of October 5.

CAMPING
The nearest camping to the event site is at the south end of the Island County Fairgrounds, located along Langley Road about a half mile walk or drive from downtown Langley. Call 360-221-7950 for information. There are also a few State Parks and a county park farther north on Whidbey Island that offer camping.
