Rattlesnake Ridge is a well-loved gem of the eastern Issaquah Alps, dividing the Snoqualmie River Valley from the vast Cedar River Watershed. The relatively new trail travels the length of the ridge, from one side to other, and threads through dense forest with a few vistas to the Snoqualmie Valley below. We are delighted to be able to host a trail run at this breathtaking venue.

This event is part of the Half Marathon Trail Series, and runners in the Half Marathon distance will earn points toward their series standing. You can read more below or on the Half Marathon Trail Series page.

Course Description

5 MILE

From the start at Rattlesnake Lake, the course crosses Cedar Falls Road (cross when directed by event staff), follows the wide Snoqualmie Valley Trail down the gentle grade toward North Bend, reaches the turn-around point at the halfway mark, then returns to the finish at the Rattlesnake Lake picnic area via the same route.
Elevation gain: about 200 feet.

HALF MARATHON
NEW for 2018! Runners will start at Rattlesnake Lake and finish at Snoqualmie Point Park. This will relieve runners from encountering heavy trail traffic from hikers going up to Rattlesnake Ledge and back. There will be complimentary shuttles for Half Marathon runners going from the finish at Snoqualmie Point Park back to Rattlesnake Lake. Runners who have already paid a shuttle fee will be issued a refund.
Elevation gain: about 3000 feet.

AID STATIONS

Approximate aid station locations:
5 MILE: halfway (2.5 miles, water-only)
HALF MARATHON: Aid station 1 is located after the turnaround, back at the start (2.5 miles). Aid Station 2 is on Rattlesnake Ridge, about 6 miles after Aid Station 1. See course map for a visual.

The aid stations offer water, electrolyte drink, and some carbohydrate-rich or salty foods, such as cookies, pieces of energy bar, gels, chews, chips, bagel, fruity candy, fig bars, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and bananas.

Shuttle

NEW in 2018: There will be complimentary shuttles for Half Marathon runners when they finish at Snoqualmie Point Park back to Rattlesnake Lake. Shuttles will run from 10:30am to 2:00pm.

Runners who have already paid a shuttle fee will be issued a refund.

Carpooling is encouraged due to the limited parking from extensive trail use at Rattlesnake Lake.

Directions and Parking

DIRECTIONS

Depending on your carrier, you may not have cell reception at or while approaching the park. Directions to Rattlesnake Lake:

Take I-90 (East from Seattle or Issaquah) to Exit 32 (436th Ave SE). This is one of the East-most exits to North Bend.
Turn right (South) at the end of the off-ramp, if coming from the Seattle or Eastside areas.
Head south on 436th Ave SE which turns into Cedar Falls Road.
Drive 2.8 miles and follow the signs posted for Rattlesnake Lake.

Safety, Etiquette, Dogs

Rattlesnake Ridge has become a very popular trail. The trails will be open to other users during the event, including pedestrians with pets. Expect more recreational hikers on the trail as the day goes on and please be courteous to other trail users by announcing your presence and passing only when there is sufficient room.

SAFETY

The trails will be open to other users during the event, including pedestrians with pets, and cyclists. Participants are responsible for their own safety while participating, and the organizers are neither qualified nor equipped to render medical care in the event of a serious injury. In case of an emergency, call 9-1-1. You are encouraged to bring a cell phone with you as a safety precaution, if you wish.

PASSING ETIQUETTE
Where the trails are narrow, please let other participants pass you if they want to get by. It is a passing runner’s job to tell the person in front that they wish to pass.

HEADPHONES
If you are wearing headphones during the event, please keep the volume low so that you can hear runners behind you. Be especially mindful that runners may be asking you to step aside so they may pass.

DOGS
Dogs are allowed on-leash at the start and finish but not racing on the course due to USATF regulations.
